Cúpula del Cementerio

A stroll through the Cementerio de la Recoleta is an amazing experience. Extravagant tombs dating back as far as the early 1800's offer a glimpse of the wealth and power held by the country's influencial families and famous people.

The cemetery was first constructed in Recoleta by the French engineer Próspero Catelin back in 1822, then remodeled in 1881 by Italian architect Juan A. Buschiazzo. It really is like a minuature city for the dead, with beautiful buildings and sculptures at every turn of the eye.
